Thoughts on Instructional Design and TechSmith Camtasia

There are many different tools for instructional design. And I have seen many different approaches to interactive content. In this blog, I share some occasional thoughts on what I am seeing in this rapidly growing field. Have questions or thoughts to share? Please post your comments below or share them by contacting me.

How to accomplish a fade-through-white in Camtasia

As of this writing, a fade-through-white transition is not available in Camtasia.  However, it is easy to build this transition with just a few steps.

1.)  Position the two clips against each other on the timeline.
2.)  Apply a Fade transition between the two clips.
3.)  Add a Color Adjustment visual effect to both clips.
4.)  Add a Custom Animation to both clips.
5.)  The start of the Custom Animation on the first clip should have normal brightness, contrast, and saturation.  On the end of the Custom Animation, set the brightness all the way to 100.
6.)  The start of the Custom Animation on the second clip should have normal contrast and saturation, but set the starting brightness to 100.  On the end of the Custom Animation, set the brightness to normal.

You can adjust the length of the Custom Animations as desired.  Also, since you are using the Color Adjustment visual effect, you can fade through some other color if you choose.  Below is a video to view this effect, and a zipped sample library that you can download.  Have fun!
