UAS Related Maps


imageThere are a number of maps available to a drone pilot, whether they are a Section 336 modeler flying for recreation, or a Part 107 certified pilot flying for public or commercial purposes.  We are all charged with keeping the skies and those on the ground safe.  Here are a few links to mapping tools.



Google Maps (satellite and map views): 
Good for flight planning, ground station location planning, and locating airports and helipads.  Easy to use tool, available on nearly every digital device.

Flight Service 1800wxbrief
This service provides comprehensive weather planning (satellite and surface plots), NOTAMS, and UAS operating areas (both current and future) information for drone pilots.  They also provide for UAS management and flight planning.

FAA Sectional Charts
Required for identifying air space restrictions, airport frequencies, and obstacles such as towers.  This is the primary flight planning resource for commercial pilots.

FAA Facility Maps
Useful for finding facilities that are enabled for the FAA's new Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability (LAANC) system, as well as National Security UAS restricted airspace.  Note that the airspace around Ft. Leonard Wood is National Security UAS restricted airspace.  From the FAA:

"The FAA, pursuant to Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) § 99.7, Special security instructions (SSI), has prohibited all UAS flight operations within the airspace defined under NOTAM FDC 7/7282 . Specific locations are described in the table and on the interactive map provided on this website. The TFRs extend from the surface up to 400 feet Above Ground Level (AGL), apply to all types and purposes of UAS flight operations, and remain in effect 24 hours a day, 7 days a week."

Here is an important excerpt from NOTAM FDC 7/7282:

"Pursuant to 49 USC 40103(B)(3), The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) classifies the airspace defined in this NOTAM as "National Defense Airspace". Operators who do not comply with the following procedures may face the following enforcement actions: A) The United States Government my pursue criminal charges, including charges under 49 USC 46307. B) The FAA may take administrative action, including imposing civil penalties and the revocation of FAA certificates or authorizations to operate under Title 49 USC 44709 and 46301. Pursuant to 14 CFR 99.7, Special Security Instructions (SSI), all UAS flight operations, including public, civil, and model aircraft, are prohibited within the airspace over select national security sensitive facilities, from the surface to 400 ft. AGL, except as provided below."
